NANDO’S Compass

Launching and communicating the Nando’s 24-point Compass Value system through in-restaurant activities reaching 8500 staff on a weekly basis over 18 month period. Nando’s restaurants and support offices are dispersed over more than 300 restaurants across South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland.

The geographic and demographic profile of the workforce meant that the employees are from varied ethnic backgrounds with varied levels of understanding of the corporate language. An interactive and game-orientated solution was developed. With clear objectives and rationale for each activity, understanding of the “corporate language” was paramount to success.

Strategically developed content, sympathetic but engaging copy and simple mechanics of delivery were developed for every theme and produced, collated and delivered in monthly game kits. Kit content was custom packed to the number of employees per restaurant to ensure cost control.

Using script based communication techniques and management staff to lead the sessions, we were able to develop a greater confidence within leadership.

Nando’s Hot Ideas Innovation Programme

An internal Innovation Programme needed an identity and visual language that stood out from all the existing internal comms.  One that would trigger the creative and practical thinkers in all of us. both visually and in narrative. Hot Ideas was born. Asking the simple, but probing question – What if…

Executed in print and digitally for maximum reach, the program is supported with printed handbooks to guide mentors and ideators through the process of Conscious Originality, using leading and encouraging copywriting, in narrative that is accessible and yet quirkily true to the brand.

Nando’s Grillers Challenge 2016

An internal event and programme aimed at nurturing the best grilling talents in Nando’s restaurants. The quote, coined by founder Robbie Brozin, “It’s the people that make the chicken” lives strong in this initiative. Regional grill-offs take place annually before culminating in a grand final at Central Kitchen, where the top 4 winners are selected to represent SA at the International Grillers Challenge later in the year.

The branding was developed to resemble key attributes of a PERi-hot Griller’s personality and day in the kitchen.  Using striking colour, VI pattern and mnemonics we were able to evoke the brand values of pride, passion, courage and integrity.
